So Saturday was the day, the most important day so far in this competition, I had the 1 on 1 interview with Oakley. I thought I’d catch a few rays at the beach a few days earlier, but instead got burnt to a crisp and lucky for me, that Saturday was the same day my face decided to peel off. So that wasn’t a good start, because I had to put on my best face for these guys, but had to settle with my 2nd best face. ha ha
So, we moved on and headed to the Oakley Office in St Kilda where I met all the other competitors and judges, who were all very cool people and all had managed to keep more than one layer of skin on their faces. I would like to take the opportunity here to thank all the other finalists as they were all amazing people and we all got on really well. I wish you all the very best!
So we had the interviews and then were asked to head outside for a surprise. Once out there, a Limo had pulled up and we were off to a secret location. We turned up in Torquay to 20 guys drinking beers on the grass out the front of this house. So we hopped out and discovered they were the Oakley Sales Reps for the South Pacific.
It was now party time! and we were off to a local bar where we had a few drinks with the Reps. After a couple drinks I discovered that the Reps had all gathered and talked about us and all they could agree on about me was that I shook hands like a girl. (I blame my dad for this, as he taught me to shake hands years ago, he also chose to call me Kristen!!)
It was a late night and we didn’t hit the sack until 1.30am. We were then woken at 5:30 am and had to jump straight into a limo back to Melbourne to set up for the annual Oakley Roof Top Party. At this stage, we were all stuffed, especially Baz who won’t admit it but someone had thrown up in the bathroom….. (come on Baz you can own up to it now.)
So it was now time to help set up the party and we had the pleasure of meeting more of the crew from Oakley. We finished around lunch time and all quickly headed back to our hotel to get some much needed sleep. (which none of us got!) It was now time for the main event!
By this stage, we were all tired, and we all had no idea what was going on let alone who was going to win. By now my face dandruff (as I’d like to call it) was all over the front of my shirt and I had to keep dusting it off. P.S. Aloe Vera did nothing!
The time had come, the Boss was introduced on stage. Some guy apparently called Phil?? It turned out that it was one of the guys who we had been working with earlier that day, apparently he was under cover and now admitting who he was and that he had been watching us like a hawk! Now let me tell you, I had no idea the winner was going to be announced in front of hundreds of people, I actually thought it was just going to be a little talk before the party started.
Minutes later, the contestants names were being introduced and all of a sudden my name was being called out as the winner!!! I was literally shocked! The next thing I I knew, I found myself walking to the stage like some stunned zombie with his face peeling off shaking hands with this guy called Phil. For the first time in my life I was speechless!
Not a good thing when THE BOSS gives you the mic to say a few words in front of a few hundred people. All I can remember was my brain yelling out to me “Say Thank you ya dunce……Say Thank you!” So, I said Thank you! and that was about all I could say! But I really was thankful and humbled to get the opportunity to work with this great company. As you can see in the photos my face wouldn’t stop smiling. It was a great moment in the history of all man kind, (well that’s what I think anyway.)
So after 3 sleepless nights (of over-thinking the interview) I had just won the most amazing job ever! I can’t express how happy and pumped I am. So right now, I am writing this from home, back on the Sunshine Coast. I’ve got my things packed, my girl in arm, and am now off to Sydney for the BOWL-O-RAMA!
So stay tuned for some of the action from this crazy week ahead.
